Is the fact that society frowns upon a relationship between an older man and a younger woman rooted in women’s rivalry over picking alpha-males? Men seem to have no problem with the concept.

It’s no big deal at least in NY. You’re right, however, it’s all about women’s rivalry over picking alpha males. A young woman has the advantage over older rivals simply because she is young.
society doesnt frown ont older dudes and younger females..unless the female is under 18.
I don’t think age is a big thing at all. Except in very small cases where someone about 0-17 is dating say a 30+ year old (this answer goes for both sexes)

No, I don’t think that’s why, but I don’t know if I understand what you mean entirely either. Older men aren’t necessarily "alpha males" at all. And I don’t think society really frowns upon a relationship between an older man and a younger woman unless she’s 19 and he’s like 40+. When I was 19, I dated someone in his early 30′s and anyone who saw us together could see how much we were alike and really liked each other, no one ever expressed concern about the relationship. There’s always the initial shock when you first mention it, but there would also be shock if a 19 year old boy was with a woman in her early 30s.
It’s frowned upon when he uses the age difference to manipulate and control the young woman. This does not happen in all cases, usually only in cases where the woman is under 25.
I think we all feel a bit uncomfortable when partners are young enough to be the children, no matter what the gender.
I wouldn’t want to have a relationship with a man young enough to be my son. eew.
Your Age /2 +7 is as low as you can go
ie. 18 year old can do an 16 y.o., 24 y.o can do 19 yo
50 y.o can do 32 y.o
100 y.o can do 57 yo
etc
If it’s two consenting adults, I don’t have a problem, nor do I stay up at night worrying about the ages of people in a relationship.
PS…the older male doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the alpha male…in fact, it’s usually quite the opposite.
I have no problem with a couple’s ages as long as they are consenting adults. That said, the urban myth men have among themselves that they become more desirable the older they get is getting laughable.
Older women with older men is far less acceptable, people think nothiing about a man being 5 – 10 years older than his wife but if the woman is older it’s wierd. I personnally don’t see anything wrong with it as long as they’re both over 18.
