In the same way that a hunter wouldn’t be much successful at catch deer if he weren’t smarter than the deer; an (initially unattractive man) would never be able to pick up women unless he knew how the manipulate them. If the guy was unattractive and the woman didn’t want to be picked up then she would just thwart him at every turn and just say no to him. However, some guys are keen enough to know what women are thinking and are able to out play them (just like in chess or something) and to catch them off guard at every turn.
Women, is it true that picking you up is mainly about being smarter?
I mean *successfully* picking women up- not simply attempting to pick them up.
When a guy goes from being ‘unattractive’ to a woman to being ‘the guy I want to have sex with’- it means that he was smarter than her about the social dynamic of picking up.

No, it’s about finding women who are attracted to you regardless. You operate under the assumption that no woman would want to be with said guy in the same way that no deer would want to cross paths with a deer hunter. I laugh at guys who think they can woo and outsmart me; I know plenty of the "tricks in the book" and much more appreciate a man who just tries to be himself rather than manipulate me.

If by "pick up" you mean to use for the purpose of sex without interest in any further relationship, I suppose you could make the argument that such a situation presents a conflict of social intelligences, wherein the guy "tricks" the girl into sleeping with him or the woman rebuffs him.

You seem to be operating under the assumption that picking girls up is an intelligence bout. It isn’t. Attracting women socially is a game of attention, not wits. It amounts to presenting a selected female (or group of females) with socially applauded cues or indications that imply superiority of kinship, genetics, spending power, influence, ascribed/achieved status or success. Unfortunately, this is specific to both women interested in marital investments and those interested only in casual sex.
I think it’s all about what a woman sees in you that attracts her. Weather it’s looks; Charm, Intelligence, common interest and, etc, women are attracted to a man they’re attracted for a reason not because they where out smarted. Out smarting some one is an indirect way of forcing some one to do what you want them to do. I don’t think it’s possible to turn some one on by "out smarting" them.

To your question, pick up is simply a tool that levels the playing field, which is why it’s demonized by all sorts of women. The attractive women hate it because it nullifies their beauty and the unattractive women hate it because it causes the guys who would normally have low standards to suddenly start going after the 9s and 10s and hence ignoring them.

Depends on if I can use a crane or not. Women come in different shapes and sizes. If it comes to that then I probably wouldn’t be interested because those carnival games where they use the crane thingy are usually a rip off, they never work. While you constantly insert quarters for a prize that is worth half the value than what you already spent at the same time receiving the leering eye of judgment from some "girl" who is interpreting your relationship stance whether you win her a prize or not.
Some men must have a frighteningly small pool of women to choose from in that case.
