I've been in a very similar situation. I dated my ex for over 7 years, and we had also met through the internet. I left him because I was just unhappy in the relationship, but he is still hung up on my after almost 3 years. He also had a rough life, was depressive and had been suicidal (before, and during our relationship). When I left him, he was obviously destroyed and I tried to remain friends with him because I felt bad for having hurt him so much. But then I slowly realized that we were never going to be able to have a normal friendship since he was still in love/obsessed with me. I slowly stopped making contact with him, and ever since one day when he blew up on me and said some really inappropriate things to me, I've blocked him on just about every online network he could try to reach me through. The only thing I keep getting from him are periodic texts on my cell phone, which I need to figure out how to block.

At any rate...you have to stop feeling guilty over this. I felt guilty at first too. But in the long run, if the relationship didn't work out, especially since she cheated on you, then it just wasn't meant to be. It is sad that she has such a rough life, but it is no longer your responsibility to tend to her. If possible, try to end the communication with her with some type of "positive" closure. In other words, be calm/fair/mature about the way you break it to her that you just don't want to communicate with her anymore. She probably won't react well to it either way, but at least you'll know that you tried to end things on good terms.

don't completely stop talking to her but let her know that you're straight and bring it up all the time till she gets it. just be consistant, if she texts you/calls you and etc. just be friendly but not too friendly and platonic. sometimes if you make the mistake of being a little bit flirtly she'll think you want her back so just be really consistant so she gets it that you're a straight girl who just sees her as a friend if even that just basicly let her know you're just being polite.

I understand how you feel but you do have to do whats right for YOU. I would feel the same way, but you cant let her issues run your life. Those are her issues, not yours. I know its hard to do, but just be firm with telling her that you dont want her like that anymore
