What i would start with would be just a normal conversation about whatever you guys talk about. Then compliments like you said, if she picks up on one of the compliments and says something more than 'thanks' or laughs. So if she extends on what you said, by either saying, 'i don't think so!' or 'yeah, i got this necklace the other day' take that as an opportunity to begin talking about her. Now i don't know if this will apply to your girl, but lots of girls usually deny it when boys compliment them. So whilst talking about her, keep saying sweet things, then, maybe after she has denied something a few times, tell her, i really think that _______ (what ever she was denying, for example, your hair is really nice) and then say, I really like you. before she has a chance to say anything. except obviously not in those words because i fail at that kind of thing XD.
