Do men grow their facial hair purposely to attract women? Do emphasise their masculinity?

Need help with women?
Here are 3 things that you must know about meeting women:
1. You must learn to act with complete and total confidence... Even if you aren't naturally confident around women, it CAN be learned, and a lot faster than you might think.
2. You must understand how women REALLY think, and what it takes to build REAL attraction Read more...

Us fellas grow our facial hair for a number of reasons:
Most of the time its because it better shows off our masculinity. This is actually similar to whats seen in lion families; the bigger the facial the better
We will also grow our facial hair based on what culture we come from (or sub culture). Take for instance the police officer moustache. This exhibits how we will grow our facial hair to fit in with our sub culture.
We originally started growing facial hair due to the fact that all "pubic" hair (hair grown after puberty) is actually part of a pheromone release system. All humans have pheromones that are released via the sebaceous glands onto the hairs on our body. So we can deduce that more hair on our body=more pheromones released.
Now a days though, most of us grow out our facial hair for the girls. Sure we may say its a better look for us, but we’re really trying to look our best for you.
I like my facial hair. I don’t know why I grow it but I like it.
Sometimes its just laziness that I can then pass off as designer stuble.
LOL ..no it just grows by itself. It is involuntary.
It is easier to maintain a neatly trimmed beard than shave every day. I only have to trim my beard once or twice a week.
If I shaved I would really have to shave twice a day. I don’t have time for all that and it irritates my skin.
I grow mine because i’m too lazy to shave every day.
Nah, I don’t like facial hair.
I don’t know, you tell me? w/ or w/o? http://s555.photobucket.com/albums/jj458/slapurself88/
I love my husband’s goatee. I like it much better than when he shaves completely.
Yes, my facial hair is my signature, not that I sport a mush or a beard, but my GF sometimes jokes that I get ‘manlier’ during weekends when I don’t shave.
Mike T makes a good observation. Yes, sometimes I may let it grow if I think that that would drive my GF crazy, but there are other factors that play into it, like convenience, laziness, choice etc.
well i like a guy that has kinda a 5 o’clock shadow but i REALLY don’t like when they have a full grown beard!!!
I have a beard and moustache because I’m lazy.
I’m just too lazy or don’t have the time to shave every day.
I absolutely LOVE a stubbly man!
When my BF shaved all his stubble off completely i almost cried. I think it’s sooo hot. He grew it back… thank god!!
Beards are a no no though
i think it’s digusting.
they do it, especially boys just starting puberty, to emphasise their mascunlinity, they think it proves they’re such a man & how ‘hard’ they are & all that crap.
I always shave because I can’t stand the itchy feeling of facial hair. If I didn’t have facial hair I would be a happy man…because I would never have to shave again (I hate shaving).
some guys just like the way facial hair looks on them I don’t think they put much thought into wather some chicks going to dig it. I like facial hair on some men and not on others.
I think guys believe that facial hair is some sort of initiation to man-hood or something lol. They always seem to be proud of it. I’m not sure if it has much to do with women….Most guys who really care about facial hair are the guys that just began growing it, and they tend to brag about it to their friends. So I think it’s a coming of age thing that all guys go through, and eventually get over.
Most young men grow facial hair, because it is supposed to be a sign of maturity.
Others keep facial hair, because we like it more than being clean shaven.
This may be a shocker but everything men do is NOT necessarily aimed at JUST attracting women. Most of the time we only think about women when we see one or when we plan to meet one. Otherwise, we are thinking about more important things.
We actually sometimes style hair, buy clothes and work-out at the gym just because WE like how it looks or feels. Attracting women is a plus, but not always the end goal.
Sure, there are definitely men out there who live just to attract women and spend all their time on that (just like there are women who do the same). But it’s not always about that.
Sometimes.
I personally hate facial hair and I shave just about every day and I think I look better without it. In my case, I’m not proud of my facial hair at all, I feel like a gorilla if I don’t shave for a couple of days.
I get tired of shaving every other day.
Omfg, I hate my facial hair. It hurts to shave, I don’t look good with facial hair, it hurts to shave (I say it twice because it hurts that much). I just plain hate it. If evolution were real, I think we should evolve to no longer need facial hair. I mean, hair was only meant to keep us warm back in the day according to evolutionary standards (at least I think). So wtf?!?! Come on evolution. KICK IN!! Same goes for body hair. We just wax and shave that too, hair is pointless. Hehe, sorry for my little tirade on hair. But I actually have to go shave right now, and I’m procrastinating!
I like the way mine looks on me, so that’s how I do it.
I couldn’t care less who it attracts. I like it, so it stays.
eoghan said "it accentuates them" and i’ve chosen his as the best answer for one of my related question
I can’t speak for all guys but I confess, I try and sport the "5 O’Clock shadow" because the majority of women like it. I used to have a goatee and ‘stache when I had long hair last year. Ever since I cut I felt that going with the stubbly look would make me more attractive.
Sure, I admit maybe that’s a bit vain or shallow of me but I haven’t been feeling all that great over the past while so the compliments help. It’s easy for me to maintain as well.
If the majority of women stated they prefered soul patches or beards then I’d probably adhere to that style. (I’ll be the 1st to admit it’s a failing but at least I admit it – I certainly don’t do that with everything about me)
Growing facial hair is not something you do by choice. It just happens and you either let it grow or get rid of it. Some women find it attractive while some do not. How many guys actually have had to get their body and some facial hair removed because girls find a smooth hairless body more attractive than a hirsute one? Kind of what guys think of girls with more extra body hair than they would like.
It’s a matter of personal preferences, because in parts of Europe it is considered sexy for girls to forgo shaving their armpits, while in the American continent it is perceived as undesirable.
I find this question very interesting and will certainly check out the various answers posted.
I don’t get an option to grow it or not.
I find the goatee and mustache the best route. I can’t stand it when the rest of it grows. Shave every other day just so I don’t itch. My wife could care less. It is my face and I can do what I want with it.
I like facial hair, on my husband. not like zz top style
, but a goatee is kinda sexy
Oh definitely a turn on! My husband just left to Marine Recruit training and it makes me a little sad he won’t be able to have facial hair..ahh I’ll miss that!
No I don’t it’s just for me, but if you happen to like it too, well and good.
I, and most women I know, think that facial hair on men us ugly!! So if you are a guy and you want to grow a beard, then do it for yourself, and not to attract the ladies lol
I always shave mine because it looks more professional. I don’t like to go to work looking like a dirty bum.
When i grew mine it was just because I liked how it looked
I personally love the 5 o’clock shadow and a love a goatee …So sexy ! I like guys who look grunge.
Ex: Hugh Laurie
They don’t shave because they can’t afford to.
